Galanga Essential Oil is extracted from the root of the Kaempferia galanga plant. Galangal comes from the same botanical family as ginger and Turmeric. Galangal essential oil is not a well known essential oil in popular aromatherapy, and this oil has tremendous therapeutic and energetic properties.
Galangal is very effective in formulations for muscle aches and stiffness. Helps reduce pain related to arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. It also is very helpful to enhance circulation. Due to its high phenolic ester content it is helpful for the digestive system and other digestive issues such as gas, nausea, motion sickness and colic.
Containing about 33% or so of 1,8 Cineole, Galangal, is a wonderful choice to add to respiratory bends for Cold and Flu, Coughs and bronchitis. It is also great to add to an asthma formulation due to the phenolic ester component.
Botany
Galangal grows in the tropical climates of east Asia. Galangal is a shrub with long, thin leaves, iris-like flowers, and reddish-brown rhizomes. A member of the ginger family, galangal roots are aromatic and have a sweet and spicy flavor. The root has been used as a spice and for its wellness-supporting properties in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda. Galangal root is generally combined into herbal formulations and tea blends.
Galangal is an East Asian tropical shrub with lance-like leaves, iris-like flowers, and reddish brown, woody rhizomes. It grows mainly in the Eastern Himalayas and Southwest India, and was introduced to Europe in the 9th century.
