Notes & Use

Personal Use

For me the power of Violet leaf absolute is in the vibrational realm of emotional and spiritual balance.  Many seem to feel that violet leaf is to be used for perfumery only, but that is a mistake.
Violet leaf absolute works magic when dealing with deep seated and epigenetic trauma. The leaf, which is the plant part that the absolute is extracted is a heart shape.  Referring to the Doctrine of signatures we can then draw that Violet Leaf is beneficial for energetics dealing with the heart.
  • Helps with anticipation and anticipatory fear
  • Comforting of the heart – very effective for the 4th chakra
  • Can help when working with traumatic events and memories
  • Invaluable when working with fearful events, thoughts and memories
  • Gives a sense of confidence and helps to restore strength
  • Worwood recommends it for "timidity of the spirit" and describes it as helping "to encourage security, courage, confidence, centering, gentleness, and upliftment."
  • According to Jennifer Peace Rhind, Violet Leaf "is often recommended for those who have been traumatized and need to ‘let go'."

Back in the day, leaves from Violet plant have been used medicinally to help relieve pain and soothe nerves,

Violet leaf is an expensive and rare extract and should be used with reverence and intention.
Please note: There is NOT an absolute that is extracted from the Violet Flower, just the leaves.

Botany

Sweet Violet is native to Europe.  It has edible flowers and also a sweet, perfumed flavor. Please keep in mind that the absolute does NOT have a floral aroma. It is extracted from the leaves and the absoute is VERY GREEN smelling.  The fragrance of Sweet Violet flower is regarded as one of the most beautiful aromas in the entire plant kingdom.

Violeta odorata has no stems so the flowers and leaves rise directly from long, horizontal, runners.   The leaves of this plant are heart shaped with rounded lobes at the base and also  have teeth around the edges.  She flowers in the Spring.

Traditional & Folklore

  • Violet flowers are associated with Greek Myths. According to the myth, violets were the creation of Artemis.  He transformed one of his virginal nymphs into the delicate flower to protect her from the approaches of her twin brother Apollo.  Hence one of the symbolic meanings attributed to Violets is modesty and restraint.
  • The earliest cultivation of violets supposedly traces back to 500 B.C.It is believed that the Ancient Greeks used the leaves as medicine to relieve pain and soothe nerves. They also used violets in wine and food as the flowers and leaves of this plant are edible.
  • The violet became the symbol of Athens.
  • For Christian, the violet flower is a symbolic emblem of humility. It is believed that Medieval Monks referred to violets as “the herbs or flowers of Trinity”  because of her three leaves.   Violets blossomed when the angel Gabriel told Mary that Jesus would be her baby and so it is also considered to be a symbol of theVirgin Mary's  great humility and Modesty.
